Our commitment

Letlou Energy (Pty) Ltd is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We view accessibility as a fundamental right, not an optional feature. We are actively engaged in ongoing efforts to improve the accessibility and usability of our website for all users, regardless of their abilities or assistive technologies.

We recognise that persons with disabilities must be treated with dignity and must have the same opportunity to access information, services, and opportunities as any other person. This commitment is integral to our values as an engineering consultancy serving diverse communities across Southern Africa.

Accessibility standards

Our website is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. We also take guidance from South Africa's Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (PEPUDA) and the principles of universal design.

We aim to comply with the following core accessibility principles:

  • Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.
  • Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users.
  • Understandable: Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable.
  • Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.

Current accessibility features

The following features have been implemented to enhance accessibility on the Letlou Energy website:

Structural and navigational features
  • Semantic HTML: Proper heading structure (h1, h2, h3) for logical document outline.
  • Skip navigation link: A "Skip to main content" link at the top of each page allows keyboard and screen reader users to bypass repetitive navigation.
  • ARIA landmarks: Proper role attributes (banner, navigation, main, complementary, contentinfo) to identify page regions.
  • Descriptive link text: Links have meaningful text (avoiding "click here" or ambiguous labels).
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus states for keyboard-only navigation.
  • Responsive design: Content reflows appropriately across device sizes and zoom levels up to 200%.
Content and visual features
  • Text alternatives: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text.
  • Colour contrast: Text and background colour combinations meet WCAG AA contrast requirements.
  • Resizable text: Text can be enlarged using browser zoom without loss of content or functionality.
  • Not reliant on colour alone: No information is conveyed solely through colour.
  • Consistent navigation: Navigation elements appear in the same order across all pages.
Form and interactive features
  • Form labels: All form fields have associated labels for screen reader compatibility.
  • Error identification: Form validation errors are clearly described and associated with the relevant field.
  • Keyboard operability: All interactive elements (buttons, links, form controls) are keyboard accessible.
  • Focus management in modals: Modal dialogs trap focus appropriately and return focus on close.

Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. We are actively working to address the following known limitations:

  • PDF documents: Some older or third-party PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software. Where possible, we provide HTML alternatives.
  • Third-party embedded content: Some embedded content (e.g., maps, social media feeds) may have accessibility limitations that are outside our direct control. We are working with providers to improve this.
  • Video content: Our hero video is primarily atmospheric and does not contain critical information. For future video content, we will include captions or transcripts.
  • Complex diagrams: Technical diagrams and schematics may not have complete text alternatives. We are in the process of adding extended descriptions.

If you encounter any accessibility barrier on our website, please contact us using the details in Section 7 below. We will prioritise resolving the issue.

Where an individual requests to receive feedback using alternate formats or accessible communication supports, we will consult with the individual to determine a suitable method of communication.

Ongoing improvement plan

Accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-time achievement. Letlou Energy is committed to continuous improvement through the following activities:

  • Regular testing: We conduct periodic accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing with assistive technologies.
  • Staff training: Our team receives training on accessibility best practices and inclusive design principles.
  • Policy review: This Accessibility Statement is reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect new standards or address identified gaps.
  • User involvement: We actively seek feedback from users with disabilities to inform our accessibility priorities.

We recognise that laws, policies, programmes, services, and structures must take into account the disabilities of persons, the different ways that persons interact with their environments, and the multiple and intersecting forms of marginalisation and discrimination that may be faced by persons with disabilities. Our accessibility efforts are guided by these principles.
